Instructional Support Technician, Biological Sciences Position Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo seeks an Instructional Support Technician in the Biological Sciences Department.
Responsibilities- Set up and maintain biology instructional laboratories, including maintenance of laboratory equipment, implementation and oversight of computer-based labs, and growth and maintenance of laboratory organisms (plants, zebrafish, and other organisms as needed).
- Conduct experiments under guidance of instructor(s) in charge of relevant courses. Assist instructor in preparation and/or revision of laboratory manuals and laboratory prep notes. Prepare educational exhibits and demonstrations as directed by instructor(s) in charge of relevant courses. Assist instructor in the training and evaluation of graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. Share responsibilities with other laboratory staff for selection, supervision and evaluation of work study assistants.
Maintain inventory and order supplies for relevant instructional labs in a timely manner. - Ensure the safety, security and cleanliness of assigned instructional laboratories. Coordinate proper handling and disposal of hazardous laboratory chemicals.
The incumbent must cooperate and coordinate with other technical staff members, ensuring a positive effect on the overall instructional and service mission of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related science with 2 years of experience in a research or instructional laboratory.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related science, plus 3 or more years experience in laboratory research and/or instructional laboratory supervision.
- Experience in growth and maintenance of laboratory organisms.
- Demonstrable experience with web-based instructional tools.
Ability to transport laboratory equipment and move with the assistance of a dolly or cart.
Salary Range$57,151
