Salary$69,342* + $1,500 w/Masters Stipend = $70,842
* Salary subject to increase upon settlement of CBA

Job DescriptionThe Behavior Specialist provides direct behavioral services to students enrolled in BOCES programs. The behavior specialist supports classroom teams in crisis management, assessment of student behavior, and planning for proactive behavioral interventions and skill development. Duties of this job require knowledge of child development, developmental disabilities, behavioral analysis, behavioral intervention techniques and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
General Duties- Support students across Erie 1 BOCES Special Education programs.
- Work with individual students on building social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Assist in crisis management including physically intervening when a student displays behavior that is harmful to themselves or others.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments.
- Serve on student support teams.
- Provide consultation to classroom teams.
- Provide consultation to administrators regarding student support plans.
- Train school staff on best practices for support of students in classrooms.
- Assist educational teams in implementing proactive behavioral strategies to support individual students and reinforce newly acquired skills.
- Other duties may be assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title.
A) Master’s degree in education or related field and Special Education Certification; with two years experience creating Behavior Intervention Programs, developing assessment of student needs through Functional Behavior Assessment, teaching coping skills and alternative behavior.
B) Bachelor’s degree in education or related field and Special Education Certification; with three years experience creating Behavior Intervention Programs, developing assessment of student needs through Functional Behavior Assessment, teaching coping skills and alternative behaviors.
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
- Candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate in the area of Students with Disabilities.
- Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst may be considered in lieu of a teaching certificate.
