PER DIEM SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

A substitute at Maritime is not a placeholder. You are expected to take control of the classroom and maintain the standard from the moment students enter

We are not looking for passive supervision.
We are looking for substitutes who:
- Can walk into any classroom and establish control immediately
- Follow and enforce school expectations without hesitation
- Maintain order, focus, and productivity for the full period
- Are comfortable addressing behavior in real time
- Do not rely on students to "self-manage"
- Thrive in a structured, high-accountability environment
If you prefer a relaxed environment or are uncomfortable correcting behavior, this is not the right fit.
Core Responsibilities- Execute the teacher's lesson plan as written, without deviation
- Establish expectations at the start of class and hold them consistently
- Maintain a classroom where:
- Students are seated, on task, and working
- Disruptions are addressed immediately
- Time is used productively
- Follow all school wide systems, including:
- Attendance procedures
- Classroom routines
- Behavior expectations
- Document student behavior and leave clear, accurate notes for the teacher and administration
- Seek support when necessary, but do not allow the classroom to lose structure
- You arrive on time and prepared
- You enforce expectations consistently across all students
- You do not ignore low-level disruption
- You maintain professionalism at all times
- The classroom runs smoothly and predictably
, even in the teacher's absence - Students remain engaged and complete assigned work
- There is no drop-off in expectations or behavior
- The teacher can return without needing to "reset" the classroom
- Composed under pressure; responds with solutions, not excuses
- Direct and confident communicator
- Consistent and fair
- Strong presence in the classroom
- Detail‑oriented and reliable
- Teaching certification preferred, but not required
- Experience working with students in a structured setting strongly preferred
- Clear expectations and strong administrative support
- Structured environment where substitutes can be successful
- Opportunity to make an immediate impact on students
