Summary
The Counselor/STEM Teacher is responsible for providing STEM instruction to students as assigned as well as counseling support.

- Maximize school success by addressing and affecting students' personal, social, and emotional needs in home, school, and community to ensure that children are physically, emotionally and socially prepared to learn.
- Monitor the implementation of school guidance programs and confer with staff to provide feedback for essential program improvements.
- Provides innovative leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, systems coordination, and professional consultation to staff and teachers
- IEP Counseling
- Promote Restorative Justice practices amongst staff
- Mediations and conflict resolution
- Facilitate continuous program development and improvement.
- Interpret the guidance program to the Board, staff and community.
- Conduct restorative conversations with students
- Provide mediation between students as needed
- Teach STEM lessons, including Keyboarding, for students in K-8th grade
- Align instruction with NYS and ISTE standards
- Teach model lessons using technology in the classroom
- Stay up-to-date with changes and advancements in classroom computer technology
- Valid NYS Teaching Certificate or Counseling Certificate
- Master's Degree
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to create STEM lessons to support teaching objectives
- Exceptional computer skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of a wide range of computer technologies
- Excellent troubleshooting, critical thinking, and analytical skills
- Hours:
7:45-3:45, regular attendance, attend weekly staff professional development each Wednesday until 4:45 p.m. - Attend and participate in school-wide professional development sessions, implement strategies in the classroom
- Develop positive relationships with parents, students and KCCS faculty
- Follow the classroom and school-wide schedule created by the Leadership Team
- Differentiate to meet the needs of all students
- Communicate student data to the leadership team as well as parents and students (report cards)
- Participate in school events and extra curricular activities
- Follow school-wide behavior management systems
- Adhere to the KCCS Employee and Student/Parent handbook
- Establish effective classroom management techniques
- Update student work displays monthly
- Establish a safe, clean, organized learning environment free from hazard
- Participate in Mentor/Coaching program as necessary
- Participate in 8 days of pre-service training at the start of each school year
- Keep evidence and artifacts that support the goals in the KCCS accountability plan
- All teachers will receive annual reviews at the end of each school year and will be held accountable for student achievement data
- Other duties as assigned (arrival, dismissal, lunch coverage, etc)
