What to Expect
As a Reliability Test Engineer focusing on electrical and mechanical testing, you will play a key role reliability improvement into Tesla Energy's. This position plays a crucial role in the reliability lifecycle of the product from development testing/analysis, manufacturing, and field operation to optimize product design for best-in-class lifetime customer experience.
What You'll Do- Perform reliability testing for Charging & Residential energy products
- Determine component/system level test solutions that optimize product reliability and durability, PFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules
- Execute independently Tesla energy product, subsystem (including switching converters, enclosures,busbars/ conductors and actuators)
- Conduct test data analysis, and clearly communicate test results, and collaborate with design and reliability engineers to resolve issues detected in testing
- Procure and develop required test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems to enhance creative component and product level reliability testing
- Facilitate test failure root cause analysis to understand the root cause and drive resolution for failures originating in testing
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with design, reliability, and manufacturing engineers to suggest design and/or process improvements and address reliability and durability issues based on understanding of failure root causes
- Continuously drive product risk burndown to ensure product design is reliable and durable during reliability tests
- Capability and willingness to train technicians/interns to operate and troubleshoot test systems to optimize the workload
- Comply with safety policies and regulations
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in power electronics hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability, and durability testing
- Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis/post‑processing (Python preferred)
- Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems, and using basic hand and power tools
- Experience working safely with high voltage equipment (up to 1kV)
- Experience pro‑actively owning and delivering test engineering projects within accelerated validation timelines
- Excellent written and verbal communication as well as organization and documentation skills

- Test Engineer - $98,640 - $147,960/annual salary
- Sr Test Engineer - $117,360 - $176,040/annual salary
+ cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
