A well-established, multidisciplinary engineering firm in New York State is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead building projects and mentor a growing structural team.
This is a leadership-focused opportunity for a licensed NYS PE who wants real ownership of projects, client relationships, and team development — not just production work.
The OpportunityYou will lead structural building projects across New York State, serve as Engineer of Record, and guide junior engineers through the full lifecycle of design. Civil-site experience is a plus, but the core of this role is building-focused structural engineering leadership.
You’ll work in a collaborative office environment with strong quality standards and a culture that values mentorship, accountability, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as Engineer of Record for structural building projects
- Independently develop and oversee structural analysis models and calculation packages
- Lead structural design for steel, concrete, and other building systems
- Delegate and mentor junior engineers on design tasks
- Oversee preparation of comprehensive drawing packages (Revit, AutoCAD, BIM)
- Review and develop engineering reports, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documents
- Perform QA/QC reviews in alignment with company and client standards
- Coordinate with clients, internal teams, and governmental agencies to secure approvals
- Travel within New York State for investigations and construction support
- 10+ years of structural engineering experience
- NYS Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Strong background in structural analysis and building design
- Experience with Bentley structural software (STAAD Pro, RAM Elements, or similar)
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, BIM workflows
- Experience using Mathcad and spreadsheet-based design tools
- Ability to independently progress projects from concept through final design
- Proven ability to lead small structural design teams
- Strong interpersonal and client-facing communication skills
- Organized and capable of managing multiple assignments
- Collaborative mindset with enthusiasm for mentoring junior staff
- Commitment to quality control and peer review processes
- Understanding of safety requirements and professional standards
- CPESC, LEED AP, and/or ENV SP certifications
- Engineer of Record responsibility
- Leadership visibility within a growing structural team
