Job Description
WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Director – Project Management for our Power & Energy Management Team. The Senior Technical Director – Project Management will oversee the day‑to‑day activities of the project management team, ensuring delivery of high‑quality work in line with WSP’s mission and culture. The role requires leadership, adherence to project management best practices, client focus, and collaboration across the Northeast region.

Provide leadership and project management oversight for the development, execution, management, control, and monitoring of Substation and/or Transmission Line projects throughout the Northeast region. Ensure that all project lifecycle activities – from proposal through planning, execution, reporting, and close‑out – uphold corporate and client standards while addressing emerging challenges.
Your Impact- Provide project management, including pursuit and development of opportunities, initiation, planning, execution, controlling, and closing, for small/medium/large scale and more complex Substation and/or Transmission Line projects in the Northeast region; support project detailed design, budgets, forecasts, margins, KPIs, monitoring external events and risk contingencies, ensuring satisfactory performance, and managing contractual obligations to deliver the project or assigned portfolio.
- Mentor project management staff on compliance with internal processes and best practices, earned value management, and PMBOK standard practices.
- Participate in company‑wide training and in‑person training events for division development and growth.
- Develop and foster strategies to engage project stakeholders at all levels, maintain effective relationships, and report on project progress.
- Guide pursuit/initiation activities for projects meeting defined criteria or risk profile, including Go / No‑Go decisions, contract reviews, risk mitigation strategies, and pricing reviews.
- Participate in and lead, when appropriate, contract T&C negotiations, rate schedule development, and client presentations.
- Drive and coordinate the completion of required internal risk reviews for all projects under your reporting staff, adhering to company RDOA requirements and procedures.
- Drive the appropriate levels of technical review required for each project, selecting qualified staff and ensuring adherence to the QA/QC plan.
- Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multidisciplinary project teams, delivering high‑level strategic advice to clients.
- Ensure updates to system and process documentation, including Risk (/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety Plan (PSP), and Communications Plan where applicable.
- Lead project kick‑off meetings with key stakeholders.
- Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements in a timely manner.
- Maintain regular client communications, reporting monthly status, safety incidents, major issues, scope and budget impacts.
- Participate in and oversee problem project reviews, providing input on root‑cause issues and solutions; assist with developing project recovery plans.
- Ensure regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical areas, and business unit managers, identifying emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget.
- Develop new and existing client relationships and seek opportunities for division growth.
- Complete formal project closeout activities and conduct lessons‑learned meetings with key project staff.
- Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to provide trusted‑advisor service and future‑ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field within the Power & Energy market, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm. PMP certification preferred.
