We are seeking a Quality Engineer specializing in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality systems related to battery modules, packs, and product-level energy storage systems. This role is responsible for ensuring ESS products and manufacturing processes meet internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations while supporting safe, reliable, and scalable production operations.
This is an on-site role in Buffalo, NY
Quality Systems & Manufacturing Support (ESS Focus)
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality processes and inspection standards related to battery cells, modules, packs, BMS electronics, wiring harnesses, and ESS subassemblies
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for production and field quality issues
- Evaluate and monitor manufacturing process capability, yield trends, defect rates, and quality metrics
- Support incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities for high-voltage ESS products
- Develop and implement Poka-Yoke and mistake-proofing solutions for HV connectors, torque-critical joints, electrical interfaces, and automated assembly processes
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to validate process changes, tooling, fixtures, and automated test equipment (ATE)
- Support prototype builds, pilot production, and design verification/validation activities (DVT/PVT)
- Develop quality inspection plans, acceptance criteria, and validation test procedures for ESS products
- Author and maintain quality work instructions, inspection procedures, QC checkpoints, and safety-critical documentation within the MES/QMS systems
- Assist with reliability testing, electrical performance validation, insulation resistance testing, and thermal performance verification
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of PFMEA, DFMEA, Control Plans, Hazard Analysis, and other quality documentation related to ESS hazards and manufacturing risks
- Ensure compliance with UL9540, UL1973, UL9540A, UN38.3, NFPA
855, ISO
9001, and related industry standards - Support customer audits, regulatory inspections, certification activities, and supplier quality assessments
- Develop and maintain electrical, functional, and safety-related quality test protocols
- Promote and enforce HV safety practices, battery handling requirements, and LOTO procedures throughout manufacturing operations
- Support Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Service teams with real-time quality troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Assist with supplier quality management and nonconforming material investigations
- Analyze field failures and manufacturing defects to identify systemic improvements
- Train production personnel on quality standards, inspection techniques, HV safety requirements, and workmanship expectations
- 1–4 years of experience in a Quality Engineer or Manufacturing Quality role (energy storage, battery, EV, or power systems preferred)
- Strong understanding of quality systems, manufacturing processes, and inspection methodologies
- Experience with PFMEA, DFMEA, Control Plans, CAPA, Root Cause Analysis, and statistical quality techniques
- Familiarity with UL, UN38.3, IEC, NFPA, ISO
9001/13485, and related compliance standards. - Strong understanding of HV safety, HV battery systems, and LOTO procedures
- Experience with electrical testing, automated test equipment, and manufacturing validation processes preferred
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skil

Effective communicator capable of working cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams. - Ability to independently manage projects, prioritize tasks, and support regulatory and certification activities.
- Working knowledge of MES/QMS systems and manufacturing documentation practices preferred.

- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
