Professional Engineer ; Civil​/Construction NY HELPS - VID

Responsibilities

• Perform professional engineering duties related to design, project budget, estimates, work plans and contract changes.
• Provide project oversight to ensure work conforms to accepted engineering standards.
• Coordinate design drawings, related specifications, construction cost estimates, etc., with other technical disciplines.
• Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
• Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
• Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects.
• Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress.
• Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction.
• Supervise the work of subordinate staff.
• Supervise consultant work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• New York State Professional Engineer’s license with a current registration.
• One qualifying bachelor’s degree (see list) OR one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements.
• One year of full-time engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements of the building.
• Optional:
  Current NY State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position at Grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
• Travel may be required (approximately 20%).
• Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s License or ability to meet transportation needs.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet transportation needs.

Note:

There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam.

Salary Adjustments for Positions in Buffalo:
Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000.

Telecommuting:
The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based on the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OGS Design and Construction (D&C) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial restriction, if an employee’s duties and performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so, up to 4 days per pay period.
