professional engineer position
this position will be responsible to perform professional engineering duties related to design, project budget, estimates, work plans and contract changes. Provide project oversight in order to ensure work conforms to accepted engineering standards. Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction cost estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines. Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants. Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects. Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress. Review shop drawings, respond to contractor requests for information, create and/or review information bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project's construction. Supervision of work of subordinate staff.
Supervision of consultant work. Perform other duties as assigned.
operational needs:
- nys professional engineer's license with a current registration.
- travel may be required (approximately 20%).
- possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license issued by the nys department of motor vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
salary adjustments for positions in buffalo: geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000.
the office of the general services (ogs) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to ogs design and construction (d&c) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee's duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so.
Upon approval to telecommute, ogs d&c employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period.

* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
- a new york state professional engineer's license and current registration and a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; or a new york state professional engineer's license and current registration and one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
- qualifying degrees: architectural engineering, architectural engineering technology, building engineering, civil engineering, civil engineering technology, construction engineering, construction engineering technology, construction engineering management, construction engineering management technology, electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, electrical power engineering, environmental engineering, environmental engineering technology, environmental design engineering, environmental resources engineering, environmental systems engineering, geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics engineering, materials engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, metallurgical and materials engineering, structural engineering, or engineering science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
- qualifying experience: one year of full-time engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements of the building.
- or current new york state employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under section 70.1 of the civil service law.
