Civil Engineer

Responsibilities

• Prepare timely, accurate, and effective communications for customers, stakeholders, strategic partners, the workforce, and the public.
• Investigate sites to determine problem areas and recommend solutions.
• Develop plans, designs, and specifications and review plans, designs, and specifications prepared by others for the improvement/alteration of existing facilities or the construction of new ones.
• Review and/or supervise the review of all shop drawings pertaining to structural components of district civil works projects.
• Review permit applications for adequacy of civil and structural features.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license for the GS‑12 level.

• Education
  :
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or a program that includes advanced courses in the core engineering sciences.
  • Alternative educational pathways may be accepted if accompanied by at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
• Experience
  :
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑09 (or GS‑11 for GS‑12 level), demonstrating the ability to maintain effective working relationships, perform assignments under close supervision, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Experience may also be substituted with graduate study (e.g., Ph.D. or equivalent) or a combination of education and experience that satisfies the required percentage.
• Professional licensure (EI, EIT, PE) or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is required.
