Mechanical Designer

Mechanical Designer – Facilities in Buffalo, NY and Tonawanda, NY.

Direct hire. Salary range: $65-95k based on experience.

Schedule:

9-5 am.

• Work independently or collaboratively to develop design concepts, detailed designs, and fabrication drawings that fulfill contractual obligations, project schedules, and company goals.
• Collaborate with and delegate tasks to internal and external partners during the design, drafting, and manufacturing phases.
• Check design and drafting work prior to Project Engineer approval to ensure requirements are satisfied.
• Work closely with the Project Engineer to solve problems that may arise during any project phase.
• Implement and follow up on your portion of the project after the Project Engineer establishes a course of action to solve a particular problem.
• Perform substantial 3D CAD modeling and 2D detailing work for individual parts and assemblies.

• Working knowledge of design practices related to vacuum vessels or systems.
• Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing concepts used in the fabrication and assembly of industrial assemblies, weldments, and detail parts.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, project requirements documents, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Strong working knowledge of CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, Mechanical Desktop, and similar CAD platforms.
• Working knowledge of Product Data Management software (Solidworks PDM).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

• Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two‑year college; a four‑year degree preferred.
• 2‑5 years of experience in a Designer or Drafter role; more experience preferred.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external customers.
• Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Proactive and able to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
• Detail‑oriented with ability to respond quickly to a fast‑moving and ever‑changing environment.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
