Duties Description
In the Office of Structures, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer 1, the incumbents may:
- Prepare drawings of moderate to complex difficulty for a variety of structural engineering projects using Micro Station CADD software.
- Prepare and check engineering computations of moderate to complex difficulty.
- Prepare and check quantity estimates.
- Perform field investigations to collect or confirm data.
- Develop and utilize complete physical engineering models for design, clash detection, visualization, construction coordination, contract plan preparation, and estimating.
- Prepare and maintain the Department standard details for bridges (BD Sheets) and the Office of Structures Bridge Manual.
- Review contractor submittals for construction and fabrication of structural elements.
- Special assignments to address management needs.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

PromotionalTo be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
- One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Junior Architect, Senior Drafting Technician, Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils).
Four years of drafting experience including at least one year of specialized drafting experience in structural engineering.
Substitutions* issued by a regionally accredited college or university AND two years of drafting experience including at least one year of specialized drafting experience in structural engineering.
- Certificates from a Trade or Technical school will be accepted only if it is from an institution that is regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education. - For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
