As a Senior Automation Engineer, your roles and responsibilities will include:
The Senior Automation Engineer designs, develops, and supports cost-effective automated manufacturing cells and systems, including robotics, machine tending, and material handling.
Candidates must have substantial experience in industrial robotics programming and integration, along with knowledge in CNC machine tool tending, PLC programming, control systems, and familiarity with SCADA as well as Ignition, Fanuc, and Rockwell Automation platforms.
The successful candidate will manage a team of 3-8 engineers and work collaboratively on projects across various engineering and operations teams.
Key tasks include identifying and recommending automation systems to enhance efficiency, overseeing automation equipment purchases, and standardizing systems and safety protocols.
The role involves troubleshooting existing automation systems, implementing new solutions to increase throughput, and minimizing production impact during new process integrations.
Effective interaction with different departments and stakeholders is essential, ensuring success in a matrix organization while supporting ongoing automation projects.
The ideal Senior Automation Engineer would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering with a control engineering-specific focus.
- 10 years of relevant experience, including projects in automation and control systems; aerospace and lean manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Strong collaboration with process owners and other subject matter experts (SMEs) is required to ensure buy-in and engagement. Requires the ability to implement change management effectively.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests.
- Solid understanding of computer programming and software development as it relates to control systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, software, electronics, and electromechanical systems, as well as automation technology in general.
