Wieland is hiring a Tooling & Die Engineer
.The Tooling & Die Engineer will be responsible for technical oversight for all tooling and die-related activities supporting press operations. Responsible for tooling design, optimization, troubleshooting, quality improvement, and continuous enhancement of manufacturing processes to support safe operations, customer satisfaction, production efficiency, and business growth. This role is located in Buffalo, NY
and will be fully on-site.

Hours:

Split Shift (6am-4pm/4pm-2am)

Base Salary Range: $77,000-$90,000

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Responsibilities

Tooling & Die Engineer
Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, modify, and optimize tooling, dies, fixtures, and press set-ups to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling, die, equipment, and process-related issues that impact safety, quality, productivity, scrap rates, or machine uptime.
  • Analyze tooling performance and implement design improvements to increase tool life, improve part consistency, reduce downtime, and lower manufacturing costs.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Production Planning, and Engineering teams to ensure tooling designs support production requirements and customer expectations. This includes any design element collaboration with East Alton tooling designers.
  • Lead root cause investigations related to product defects, dimensional issues, tooling failures, scrap, and process variation, implementing permanent corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support new product introductions, customer requirements, and process changes through tooling design, development, validation, and production launch activities.
  • Coordinate die tryouts, production trials, capability studies, sample submissions, and process validations to ensure tooling meets operational and customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain tooling standards, engineering drawings, specifications, setup documentation, and revision controls to ensure accurate and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Review manufacturing processes and tooling designs for manufacturability, quality, safety, reliability, and efficiency improvements.
  • Monitor tooling performance metrics, including tool life, quality performance, maintenance requirements, downtime, and operating costs, and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel, setup technicians, and maintenance teams on tooling operation, troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs by identifying tooling wear patterns and recommending refurbishment, replacement, or redesign strategies.
  • Ensure all tooling designs comply with customer specifications, engineering standards, product quality requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
