Controls Engineer
Location:
Buffalo, NY
Salary: $100,000-$125,000

The Controls Engineer will design, maintain, and improve industrial automation systems supporting manufacturing operations. This role requires strong PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system-level problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Design, program, and maintain PLC-based control systems and HMI applications.
- Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and automation issues in a production environment.
- Support equipment commissioning, startups, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and P&IDs.
- Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Document PLC logic, I/O changes, software revisions, and system modifications.
- Ensure controls systems comply with applicable safety standards and engineering practices.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, including robotics, motion control, and vision systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
- Industrial automation and controls experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and HMI development.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control drawings.
- Experience with multiple PLC platforms, robotics, motion control, or vision systems is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable supporting high-uptime production operations.
