Responsibilities
  • Review construction opportunities, plans, specifications, schedules, addenda, and bid documents to determine product fit, scope, risk, and bid strategy.
  • Develop bid/specification projects and maintain technical relationships with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, facility owners, and other industry partners.
  • Contact engineers, contractors, and end users as needed to clarify requirements, identify opportunities, and advance active projects.
  • Prepare or assist with equipment specifications, drawing reviews, system concepts, equipment selections, and technical comparisons.
  • Perform sizing calculations for boilers, burners, pumps, heat exchangers, feedwater equipment, domestic hot water systems, controls, venting, and related boiler room components.
  • Run venting calculations and develop venting system layouts for direct opportunities and outside sales personnel.
  • Obtain and review bid documents, manufacturer quotations, lead times, exclusions, alternates, and technical compliance information.
  • Prepare accurate, competitive proposals for bidding contractors, customers, and outside sales personnel while following B.J. Muirhead pricing and margin requirements.
  • Submit bids, follow up after bid, review scope with the apparent or awarded contractor, and support commercial negotiations through award.
  • Prepare and coordinate submittals, respond to review comments, and revise or resubmit documents as required.
  • After purchase order and submittal approval, coordinate job setup, labor approval, equipment ordering, and equipment release in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Manage the technical and commercial details of assigned projects, including contractor questions, order review, shipment coordination, and scope changes.
  • Coordinate installation, operation, and maintenance manuals, startup reports, job work-order review, and other project closeout documentation.
  • Visit job sites when required to confirm field conditions, obtain dimensions, review venting layouts, or resolve technical issues.
  • Handle smaller equipment and component projects that do not include labor, including commercial boilers, venting, separators, and related boiler room equipment.
  • Develop, prepare, and present Lunch & Learn programs for engineering and contractor firms.
  • Maintain an accurate list of active opportunities, required follow-up, project status, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain current product knowledge and factory training certifications through company-provided education and training.
  • Two to five years of experience in technical sales, application engineering, estimating, project engineering, or mechanical equipment sales is preferred.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, HVAC, energy systems, or a related field is preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • Working knowledge of commercial or industrial HVAC, steam, hydronic, domestic hot water, combustion, controls, pumps, or venting systems is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications and translate technical requirements into equipment selections, calculations, and written proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to understand and respond to engineer, contractor, and end-user needs.
  • Organized, accurate, self-sufficient, and able to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining consistent customer and project follow-up.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with CRM, estimating, PDF-markup, equipment-selection, or CAD tools is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally or regionally when project needs require it.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to working effectively within a team environment.
