CORE Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CORE), an engineering and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and experienced Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our Buffalo, New York office.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering and approximately five to eight years of relevant professional experience. The position will focus primarily on stormwater compliance and design, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and petroleum bulk storage systems.
Candidates should possess strong engineering design, drafting, technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with practical experience applying local, state, and federal environmental regulations. We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and personable professional with strong attention to detail who can work independently and collaboratively as part of a growing team.
Responsibilities- Prepare SWPPPs, stormwater calculations, drainage and grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and related permit applications.
- Design stormwater management systems and conduct construction and industrial stormwater inspections.
- Complete Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and plan and oversee Phase II investigations involving soil, groundwater, and soil-vapor sampling.
- Evaluate environmental data and prepare technical reports, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Design petroleum bulk storage and fueling systems, including tanks, piping, secondary containment, spill and overfill protection, leak detection, and monitoring equipment.
- Prepare PBS registrations, SPCC Plans, compliance evaluations, engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and regulatory submissions.
- Manage assigned projects and coordinate with clients, staff, subcontractors, laboratories, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
- Assist with proposals and perform site visits, field assignments, inspections, and client meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
- Five to eight years of relevant civil engineering, environmental engineering, or environmental consulting experience.
- Experience preparing engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, calculations, permit applications, and other project deliverables.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
- Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal stormwater, environmental assessment, and petroleum storage regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively within established budgets and schedules.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. CORE reimburses employees for authorized mileage and toll expenses.
- New York State Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain professional licensure in the near term.
- Experience designing above ground or underground petroleum storage and fueling systems.
- Experience with NYSDEC petroleum bulk storage regulations, SPCC Plans, and applicable fire and building code requirements.
- Experience with NYSDEC construction and industrial stormwater permits and municipal stormwater requirements.
- Experience planning and overseeing soil, groundwater, and soil-vapor investigations.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies, municipalities, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Previous project or task management experience.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000 annually. The offered compensation will be based on the selected candidate’s education, qualifications, professional licensure, and relevant experience.
