Position: Staff Accountant (Non-CPA)

$26-30 per hour based on education and experience

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions. This role is responsible for accounts and grants receivable, accounts payable, collections, grant-related bookkeeping, following GAAP, advising the Executive Director and members of management on financial matters, accessing various reports and confidential information, assessing the financial health and stability of the organization, and other general accounting functions.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable collaborating across departments.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field; bachelor’s preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience; nonprofit sector a plus
  • Strong understanding of Not-for-Profit GAAP
  • Strong proficiency with O365, particularly Excel, and accounting software;
    Quick Books highly desired
  • Very strong organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle confidential information
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • Analytical thinker, able to prioritize, provide analysis and identify areas for improvement
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills
  • Candidate must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and issues invoices in accordance with organizational policies and grant requirements
  • Records incoming payments and maintains accurate customer/donor account records
  • Monitors outstanding balances and conducts routine collections outreach
  • Reconciles AR accounts monthly and supports year-end close activities
  • Processes vendor invoices, reimbursements, and credit card expense reports
  • Reviews invoices for accuracy, proper documentation, and approval
  • Familiarity with ACH processing; payables and receivables
  • Maintains vendor files, W-9s, and assists with annual 1099 filings
  • Collaborates with various department staff to track grant spending and ensure compliance
  • Assists with preparing financial reports for funders, board requests, and as needed by management (e.g. P&L, Balance Sheet, etc.)
  • Maintains documentation to support grant expenditures
  • Track grant expenditures and prepare financial reports for grantors
  • Monitors restricted vs. unrestricted funding and allocations
  • Assists with monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintains the general ledger, including journal entries and accruals
  • Supports annual audit preparation; may take lead on various audit functions
  • Maintains accurate, secure digital filing systems and bookkeeping records
  • Consistently follows proper protocols to safeguard confidential financial information and records; maintains security and privacy
  • Works with external resources or firms to support the organization and promote efficient processes are established and followed; may establish and implement SOPs and policies
  • Provides advisement to senior leadership on the general financial health and stability of the organization; uses a proactive approach and escalates concerns as necessary
  • Supports the organization’s mission and values, promotes a positive culture and remains actively engaged
  • Other duties as assigned by a member of management within the job scope
Working Conditions:

Office environment requires employees, with or without accommodation, to consistently use manual dexterity in reaching, writing, navigating around the workspace. This position may include hours standing and walking, including up and down stairs, occasional driving, and moving items of up to 30 pounds.
