Assistant Controller
Lactalis USA is currently hiring an Assistant Controller based in Buffalo, NY.
The Assistant Logistics Controller reports to the Logistics Controller. The position is accountable for assisting the logistics accounting department, ensuring that entries recorded in the general ledger comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The role supports the monthly closing process, various accounting reports, financial statements and analyses, and other ad‑hoc reporting as necessary. It also assists with interim and year‑end audits and the annual logistics department budget process, prepares monthly variance explanations and account reconciliations, and reviews the accounting department workflow, systems, record keeping and compliance requirements.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Take an active role in the timely completion of the month‑end close process, including direct responsibilities for accounts/analyses and oversight of others
- Maintain the general ledger for the logistics department
- Prepare monthly and YTD internal financial statements
- Prepare and review key account reconciliations
- Provide logistics department budget and expense analysis reporting; prepare and manage specific areas of the annual budget process
- Ensure adherence to the company’s policies and procedures related to internal financial controls
- Assist with interim and year‑end audits, coordinating among departments and interacting directly with internal and external auditors
- Behave in a professional manner that always represents the company in the highest ethical standard
- Provide support on other projects as needed, and accomplish all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested
The incumbent is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of logistic accounting team members in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Work ConditionsTravel may be required, however infrequent.
Extended hours may be necessary depending on project needs.

Requirements EducationBachelor’s degree is favored. Associate’s degree is required.
Majors in accounting, finance, or supply chain are preferred.
Experience4+ years accounting or financial analysis experience is required, preferably within a manufacturing or logistics environment.
Certifications and Specific KnowledgeThe following CPA or CMA certifications are preferred but not required for this role.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ERP systems (such as SAP) is required for successful performance in this position.
