About CELJCenter for Elder Law & Justice (CELJ) is a civil legal services organization fighting for justice, primarily for low-income older adults, in 10 counties in Western New York. Our attorneys stop illegal evictions, save clients homes from foreclosure, put a stop to elder domestic violence, fight for public benefits, work with our local immigrant & refugee populations, and represent grandparents and other kinship care relatives in custody and neglect petitions in family court.
We also advocate for systems-wide policy changes, commenting frequently on changes to regulations and working with local elected leaders on legislation that will impact the poor and vulnerable older adults in our area. We believe that independence and dignity are the hallmarks of justice.
Center for Elder Law & Justice is looking to fill a full-time Staff Accountant position. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Staff Accountant, assists and provides a range of support and financial administration to the Pooled Trust Department, as well as the Agency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Responsible for managing Quick Books duties related to the Pooled Trust.
- Initiate deposits and payments as needed, researching issues as they arise and updating spreadsheets continuously.
- Responsive to Senior Accountant, Pooled Trust Social Worker, and CFO requests regarding client bills and checks, researching and fact-finding when necessary.
- Continuous communication and contact with banking institutions.
- Review receipts to make sure receipts match our statements.
- Update internal software.
- Assist Pooled Trust department with client services, as needed.
- Participate in ongoing departmental and agency meetings.
- Special projects for the Senior Accountant.
May require some travel.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE- Bachelor’s Degree with Accounting Major
- 1-5 years of accounting, financial, or equivalent experience
- Strong user of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient with math and accounting skills.
- General understanding of banking and financial regulations.
- Demonstrated research and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail, well organized and accurate.
- Extremely generous PTO
