Special is a new kind of holding company. Our mission is to maximize the efficiency of American taxpayer dollars by transforming its critical industries with AI. We acquire and operate businesses that form the backbone of the American economy and deploy SpecialOS, our proprietary operating system, to make them run more efficiently.

Our team is small, technical, and systems-oriented. Everyone is an individual contributor. We expect strong work ethic and clear communication.

We're hiring a Member of the M&A Team to source, evaluate, and help close acquisitions of businesses with $1–10M of annual EBITDA. This is a high-ownership role on a deliberately lean team, and you'll be involved in acquisitions from first meeting to close.

• Source and build a pipeline of acquisition targets within our buy box, through proprietary outreach and our sourcing partners
• Run introductory calls with owners — build rapport, qualify fit, and represent Special as a partner of choice against traditional private equity.
• Lead due diligence end-to-end: financial analysis, business operations, customer contracts, and legal and regulatory review.
• Build and own the financial models — valuation, deal structuring (debt vs. equity), and the post-acquisition value-creation case.
• Drive deals from initial sourcing through close, keeping momentum across owners, lenders, and internal stakeholders.

• A track record sourcing, evaluating, and closing business acquisitions, ideally in the $2–10M EBITDA range.
• Background in private equity, corporate M&A, investment banking, or search funds.
• Deep expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence.
• Strong feel for Main Street services businesses and the owners who run them.

• Background in accounting or finance, or an MBA.
• Experience in healthcare services M&A.
• Passion for the tech industry, AI, venture capital, or startups.
• Exposure to fundraising from investors or LPs.

In-person in NYC.

$120,000–$150,000 base with an opportunity to earn $50,000-$100,000 annual bonus.
