University Police Communications and Security Specialist 1
Police Dispatchers perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in this 24-hour facility. Dispatchers are required to process and prioritize incoming calls for police, fire and EMS assistance. This is a 24/7, 365 day a year operation and Police Dispatchers will be required to work all days and shifts as required. The University Police Communications and Security Specialist 1 provides communication services within the University Police Departments at the campuses of the State University of New York.
Their primary responsibility is to function as a desk officer, dispatcher, and 911 operator.
- Use a computer-aided dispatch and RMS system to receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services.
- Determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.
- Receive and process emergency calls, maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of police and fire units.
- Monitor direct emergency alarms, answer non-emergency calls for assistance. Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems.
- Receive requests for information regarding vehicle registration, driving records and warrants, and provide pertinent data.

Minimum Qualifications- One year of full time experience as a Police or Peace Officer.
- One year of full time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement.
- One year of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military where you served as a dispatcher or military police/security personnel.
- 30 semester college credit hours from an accredited school recognized by the New York State Education Department.
- Possession of a current Security Guard photo d by the New York State Department of State, and one year subsequent building guard experience.
- Salary Range: $49,454.
