To assist in providing sports medicine and athletic training services to intercollegiate athletic teams under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel.

This is a 10 month, full-time position, including university benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training coverage, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
  • Provide athletic training services for the athletic department, included but not limited to: prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
  • Provides game and practice coverage including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Collaborate with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver appropriate care and referrals to student-athletes;
  • Assist with the supervision, daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training facilities;
  • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with administrative duties as assigned;
  • Follow established emergency plans for D'Youville athletic facilities including off-campus venues.
  • Follow and assist with enforcement of all policies/procedures as outlined within the Athletic Training Room policy/procedure manual, including codes of conduct and rules of use for the athletic training facility and equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate medical records on all injuries, treatment, rehabilitation and physician referrals
  • Serve as a liaison for student-athletes between physicians, coaches, athletes, parents and other health care providers as needed.
  • Apply a team approach with the Head Athletic Trainer and Coaches to ensure that student-athletes participate only when physically able and that any physician instructions are understood and followed.
  • Comply with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the College’s regulations.
  • Assist with the collection, maintenance and privacy of all (new and returning) student-athletes’ current contact, emergency contact, health insurance, consent and health-status waivers.
  • Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, braces, and equipment, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury.
  • Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer athlete to emergency medical facilities when necessary.
  • Educate athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse.
  • Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the College, the NCAA, and the ECC; understanding that an employee can be suspended for a period without pay or terminated if found to be involved in significant or repetitive violations of NCAA regulations;
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Required (Professional) Credentials
  • Current certification in CPR/AED.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensing in the state of New York
  • Current NATABOC certification
  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training; master's preferred
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health or Human Performance or related field and one (1) year of direct clinical experience as a BOC Athletic Trainer.
  • -or
    - Bachelors degree in an appropriate area outlined above and three (3) years of direct clinical experience as a BOC Athletic Trainer.
  • Strong time management skills with high level of organizational skills.
  • Be able to apply a ‘team’ approach to the delivery of student-athletic health care.
  • Must be able to work long periods under conditions requiring moderate physical demands.
  • Requires exposure of outdoor elements and the ability to tolerate weather conditions.
