Overview
Job Summary
:
Greet patients and assist with necessary admitting paperwork. Performs billing and clerical duties. Collect insurance referrals, process payments for center. Knowledge of SIS preferred.
Reports To: HR
Hours: 9am-5pm Monday-Friday
Duties And Responsibilities- Daily Responsibilities
- Register the patients
- Collect co-pays and prepare patient receipts. If applicable, confirm the facility notified patient at the time of appointment of out-of-network status, inform patient of estimated amount for facility services, and obtain signed OON Payer Notice.
- Copy current patients' insurance cards and face sheets for billing, pathology and anesthesia and place in chart
- Confirm demographic and insurance information and ensure it is updated in the system
- Check patient copying or checking driver's license or other forms of
- Prepare new charts with all necessary forms
- Prepare patient labels
- Ensure that every chart form in every patient record has a label of complete information
- Pull old charts if there are previous visits
- Maintain charts in a neat, clean, orderly and current fashion
- Maintain neatness and cleanliness of the waiting room
- Print out schedule for the following day
- Call patients with arrival times for next day
- Follow through on all medical office requests
- Distribute faxes
- Copy and make HIPAA information and Patient rights available to patients
- Maintain copier and credit card machines
- All other duties as assigned
- Keep work area neat and clean
- Materials Control/ Financial Awareness:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Center's budget endeavoring to reduce waste and ensure cost containment
- Maintains a professional and ethical relationship with patients and physician offices
- Computer Systems:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in using the Center's computer system for documentation, charging, list reports and inventory. Participates in training classes as needed
- Maintains confidentiality of all information and the medical record and assigned computer codes
- Communication:
- Maintains open collaborative dialogue with all center staff, physicians, their offices and families and insurance carriers
- Regularly attends staff meetings, orientations and in-services. Serves on assigned committees
- Reports promptly and accurately all significant events and problems to the Site Coordinator
- Professionalism:
- Becomes involved with research, new equipment and procedures for the center
- Maintains dress and decorum. Prominently wears name identification badge at all times. Introduces self to patients and family members
- Promotes good image of Center to patients, patient family members, vendors, and community
- Demonstrates professional behavior by being technically competent, skilled and responsive to the Center's customers in a compassionate, efficient and effective manner
- Maintains competencies identified by the Center including mandatory education, equipment and skill competency review lists; stays informed about the Center's policy and procedure manual
- Maintains the confidentiality of patients, significant others and fellow employees
- Miscellaneous:
- Actively communicate and support the organization's mission, values, ethics, philosophy, objectives and policies and procedures. Demonstrates understanding of how the success of the surgery center is linked to the customer process
- Maintains confidentiality, safety and security in all aspects of job role. Applies HIPAA requirements
- Demonstrates intermediate to advanced technical knowledge and competency for all equipment
- Demonstrates safe habits in the workplace with a concern for safety of patients, families, and staff. Maintains current knowledge of the center's emergency preparedness protocols and procedures. Applies OSHA standards
- Prepares daily timesheet, completing at the end of each shift. Ensures that any hours deviating from the posted schedule are approved by the site coordinator prior to changes being made
- Contributes to the effectiveness of the center by remaining within the acceptable standard of the center attendance and tardiness policies. Is present at workstation and prepared to work at the start of the assigned shift. Does not extend breaks or take unexplained absences from the work area
- Personal phone calls and other personal matters are attended to during a break
- Assists site coordinator as needed
- High school graduate or GED
- Training or courses in business office activities
- Good typing skills
- Good communication skills
- Good computer skills
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Medical Receptionist experience preferred
- Medical billing preferred
- Ability to sit/stand for a considerable amount of time; ability to walk
- Visual and auditory acuity for frequent use of computer, telephone, and occasional use of other office equipment
- Ability to perform occasional overhead and low reaching
- Physical strength required for equipment needs and patient-care activities
- Visual and auditory acuity for timely responsiveness and patient-care assessment activities
