JOB SUMMARY
This position provides nursing services including the management and dispensing of controlled substance medication. Performs additional nursing responsibilities under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Primary Responsibilities:
- Receives and records medication into inventory.
- Dispenses and reconciles medication, including following procedures precisely, and reporting any discrepancies.
- Verifies the identity and observes behavior in patients to whom medication or other medical services are provided.
- Records observations and services provided in the clinical record.
- Prepares and reviews various reports relating to medication dispensing and reconciliation.
- Assists in the identification and scheduling of patients for follow-up medical and nursing care, in consultation with medical providers, including monitoring lab results.
- Assists in physical examinations, including acting as a chaperone.
- Performs phlebotomy, EKG’s, immunizations, vital signs, and toxicology tests.
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, supervisory meetings, and training.
- Identifies and reports opportunities to improve quality of care, staff effectiveness, and patient satisfaction.
- Satisfactory completion of mandatory training.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- NYS License to Practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in substance use treatment, particularly opioid treatment programs preferred.
- Current valid LPN
- Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program
- Prior experience in rehabilitation or skilled nursing preferred.
- Strong clinical documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and interested healthcare professionals, and to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques including sanitation, personal hygiene, nutrition, and psychology of substance use disorders.
- Ability to maintain professional rapport with physicians, medical, and aligned staff.
- Must have tact, good judgment, strong initiative, resourcefulness, and understand the principles of medical confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to hear and listen.
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Use of hands is required for tasks such as typing, writing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
- Ability to speak Spanish when delivering services is desired.
- Must have observation skills, mental alertness, and emotional stability.
