Nursing Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY
This position provides professional nursing care to patients in outpatient health care facility under the supervision of the Medical Director. Directs administration of the nursing responsibilities of the methadone clinic within federal and state regulations and program policies.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of nursing services.
- Ensure the adequacy of medication and supplies in the dispensary and medical unit by performing inventory assessments.
- Regularly inspects and maintains dispensary and medical unit equipment and the emergency medical kit.
- Orders, receives, and reconcile medication.
- Assess and analyze nursing methods, procedures and techniques to improve quality of service.
- Identify program areas for improvement and provide necessary training and staff development.
- Coordinates the flow of information to appropriate sources (medical providers, regulatory agencies, etc.)
- Oversee management of medical records to ensure conformance to applicable policies and procedures.
- Chairs and/or participate in committees as assigned.
- Prepares monthly reports of nursing services.
- Directly delivers nursing services as needed.
- Satisfactory completion of mandatory training(s).
- Additional duties as assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Supervises nursing and medical records staff.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, completed appraisal performances, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing OR graduation from a school of nursing registered by the NYS Education Department whose graduates are qualified as Registered Professional Nurses.
- Previous experience in nursing supervision, preferably in the behavioral health field.
- Experience in substance use treatment, particularly in opioid treatment programs preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and regulatory documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and interested healthcare professionals, and to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts and knowledge of statistical methods.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to perform research according to professional format and standards.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques to include sanitation, personal hygiene, nutrition, and psychology of substance use disorders.
- Ability to maintain professional rapport with physicians, medical, and aligned staff.
- Must have tact, good judgment, strong initiative, resourcefulness, and understand the principles of medical confidentiality.
- Leadership skills in a behavioral health setting.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to hear and listen.
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Use of hands is required for tasks such as typing, writing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
- Ability to speak Spanish when delivering services is desired
- Must have observation skills, mental alertness, and emotional stability.
