* To be considered for this position, candidates will be required to sit onsite in either Buffalo, NY or Wilmington, DE markets. This position requires 4x per week on site Database Engineer (SQL Platform Engineering | Azure Cloud | Infrastructure Automation)

The Database Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, automation, and operational excellence of the enterprise SQL Server platform. This role serves as a technical leader and trusted advisor, driving the strategy, architecture, security, performance, and scalability of database services across on-premises and Azure cloud environments. The engineer partners closely with application teams, architects, and infrastructure teams to deliver highly available, resilient, and compliant database solutions that support critical business applications.

This position emphasizes Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and platform automation through Terraform and Ansible, enabling consistent deployment, configuration management, patching, and lifecycle management of SQL Server environments. The Database Engineer designs and maintains Azure-based database infrastructure, develops platform standards, optimizes performance and capacity, and leads modernization initiatives that improve reliability, operational efficiency, and developer experience. As a subject matter expert, the role provides technical leadership, mentors team members, supports audit and regulatory requirements, and influences enterprise database strategy and roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities

+ Design, build, and maintain enterprise SQL Server platforms supporting mission-critical applications.

+ Architect and support Azure-based database solutions, including high availability, disaster recovery, backup, monitoring, and security controls.

+ Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Terraform and Ansible.

+ Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code standards, reusable modules, and deployment pipelines.

+ Lead SQL Server performance tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and platform optimization efforts.

+ Establish database engineering standards, operational procedures, and best practices for reliability, security, and scalability.

+ Collaborate with application development, cloud engineering, security, and architecture teams to deliver resilient database solutions.

+ Drive platform modernization initiatives, cloud adoption strategies, and automation opportunities.

+ Ensure compliance with regulatory, risk, and audit requirements through effective governance and controls.

+ Serve as a technical resource and mentor for database administrators and engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

+ 8+ years of experience supporting and engineering SQL Server platforms in enterprise environments.

+ Strong expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, high availability technologies, and disaster recovery.

+ Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and database services.

+ Advanced experience with Terraform, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.

+

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, scripting, automation, and Dev Ops practices.

+ Strong understanding of security, compliance, monitoring, and operational support within regulated environments.

+ Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

This is a Contract position based out of Buffalo, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $61.67 - $86.11/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
