General Liability Claims Specialist

Evaluates, investigates, and assists in the processing of General Liability incidents and/or claims, including bodily injury, property damage, product liability, auto liability and shopping cart claims. Works closely with TPA/insurance carrier(s) as the primary contact for new incidents/claims. Responds to necessary customer inquiries regarding claims. This role requires a high level of courtesy and service to customers and outside vendors and must possess an understanding and appreciation of handling insurance defense claims.

Position can be located in either Buffalo or Schenectady, New York. This is an on-site work position.

• Responsible for investigating, evaluating, and negotiating general liability incidents/claims in compliance with established company technical and customer service best practices, adhering to all laws and regulations that govern the administration of claims.
• Complete a thorough course of investigation of all new liability incidents; determine if appropriate to handle internally or submit claim to Third Party Administrator; with direct impact on monthly Period End charges and Claim Administration costs.
• Identifies all new potential Third party claims and issues proper notice to all appropriate entities.
• Primary contact for TPA/insurance carrier on all non-litigated incidents/claims.
• Authority to approve TPA settlement authorization requests of up to $15,000 and reserves up to $25,000.
• Investigate and provide accurate information for legal discovery requests from Defense Counsel.
• Primary contact for product recalls for PC/M32. Ensure all recalls are processed in a timely manner and the recall class is accurately identified.
• Oversees gift card program, recommending & approving the issuance of gift card settlements for minor claims were appropriate. Obtain general releases when necessary.
• Manage all in-house property damage and auto recovery claims. Work with outside entities and vendors to obtain recoveries and credit appropriate expense accounts.
• Ensure that all claimant inquiries are responded to on a timely basis and in a professional manner.
• Handles routine questions and problems, referring more complex issues to supervision.
• Ensure that all claims data is maintained to include complete accuracy.
• Performs any necessary claim reports, including period end reporting.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

• Must maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
• Must possess basic math and organizational skills
• Knowledge of Excel, Word, ATS Software
• Ability to effectively communicate; both verbally and in writing

• 2-year associate degree in insurance, finance, or related field preferred
• 2-3 years clerical or claims-related experience preferred
• 1-3 years’ experience in General Liability claims area preferred
