JOB SUMMARY:

The Translation Coordinator oversees the coordination and delivery of document translation services from initial request through final delivery and billing. This position manages translation projects, coordinates with customers and contracted translators, ensures quality standards are met, maintains translator records, and supports continuous improvement of translation processes and technology. The Translation Coordinator also assists with the development of translation products and may support interpreting services as departmental needs require.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in translation, linguistics, languages, international studies, communications, social work or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Experience working with immigrant and/or refugee populations in a community-based setting
  • Experience coordinating translation projects, document localization, Desktop Publishing or multilingual communication services; professional translation experience preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated professional acumen to collaborate with a variety of external community members and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • High level of cultural competency, empathy, and adaptability
  • Multilingual or bilingual abilities a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, translation management systems, and Adobe Acrobat Suite including InDesign and Photoshop
  • Strong prioritization and organization skills with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Willingness and adaptability working with diverse cultures of underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Ability to work in a team environment focused on the organization’s mission
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Translation Project Management
  • Coordinates full-cycle translation of electronic and paper documents - generates quotes, handles intake, manages workflows and deadlines, interfaces with customers and contractors, etc.
  • Coordinates transcription/translation requests
  • Processes translator payments, reconciles project documentation, and maintains accurate financial records in accordance with organizational policies
  • Maintains current and accurate translator records, credentials, and information
  • Consistently provides superior customer service to customers and translators
  • Assists with creation of translation product packages for industry-specific marketing
  • Assists with design and evaluation of new products or opportunities
Quality Assurance
  • Adheres to industry and agency standards, upholding confidentiality and ethics of translation regarding translation quality
  • Monitors translation quality and assists in developing, implementing, and continuously improving translation, editing, proofreading, localization, and transcription standards and procedures
  • Gathers feedback from stakeholders to drive program improvements and efficiencies; maintains positive working relationships with contracted translators and vendors
  • Stays up-to-date with rapidly changing industry standards; maintains flexibility and implements changes accordingly
  • Collaborates with department staff to recruit qualified translators, coordinate compliance including contracts and privacy agreements, monitor translator performance
Department Operations
