Hodgson Russ LLP, a dynamic and leading AmLaw 200 firm known for its excellence and innovation in legal services, is seeking an attorney to join the State & Local Tax practice group in the Firm’s Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, or New York City offices.

• Knowledge of state and local tax laws, multistate tax principles, including nexus, apportionment, and combined reporting.
• Experience representing clients in planning, compliance, controversy, and litigation matters across various jurisdictions.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient leader who excels in client service, team development, and practice growth.
• Candidates seeking a Partner title will have a portable book of business and bring a client portfolio of State & Local Tax matters.

• Advise clients on state and local tax issues, including personal income tax, corporate income/franchise tax, sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, property tax, and unclaimed property.
• Provide strategic tax planning related to multistate operations.
• Represent clients in audits, administrative appeals, and litigations before state and local tax authorities, administrative appeals agencies, and state courts.
• Supervise, mentor and develop associates within the State & Local Tax practice group.
• Participate in client meetings and contribute to business development efforts, as appropriate.

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Strong academic credentials.
• Excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other practice areas to provide comprehensive solutions to clients.

At this time, the good faith estimate of the annual salary range for this position, if the successful applicant is based in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, or New York City, is $175,000 to $450,000. Where a successful applicant is slotted within this range will vary based on legitimate criteria, such as experience, portables, and skill level.

This range is not applicable to other locations.
