Maintenance Supervisor

HOURLY RANGE: $21.20 - $28.76

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves supervising and participating in the maintenance and cleaning services at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. This is a working supervisor position. The incumbent is responsible for a variety of cleaning activities as assigned. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-ranking supervisory employee. Supervision is exercised over a large number of lower-level maintenance and cleaning staff.

Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK

ACTIVITIES:

Assigns and supervises cleaning activities including, but not limited to burning, stripping and waxing of floors, extracting and bonneting of carpets, washing walls, day-to-day of patient and public areas, collection and transport of linens to laundry and other housekeeping activities;

Plans and assigns work schedules for subordinate employees;

Performs inspections on cleaning work performed by subordinate staff;

Supervises collection and removal of water paper for garbage collection;

Trains staff on proper cleaning methods in accordance with internal policies and procedures;

Distributes cleaning materials and supplies;

Participates in the monitoring or cleaning materials and supplies inventory to ensure maintenance of necessary levels;

May recommend specific types or brands of cleaning materials for purchasing;

May perform routine maintenance of and minor repairs to cleaning equipment.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of hospital cleaning practices and procedures; good knowledge of hospital cleaning equipment and supplies and the safe use and efficient use of same; ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment; ability to follow and issue oral and written instructions; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of cleaning personnel; ability to train others; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;

ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; thoroughness; dependability; initiative; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of janitorial work experience.

NOTE:

Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
