. has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Executive Director – Civil Practice to contribute to our impact on Western New York communities. By providing executive leadership and management of the Civil Legal Services and Attorneys for Children Units, this position ensures the civil practice programs are effective and successful by creating, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and refining policies, practices, and initiatives.
The Deputy Executive Director also plays a critical role in the overall success and impact of the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Inc.’s mission by supporting the Chief Executive Officer with operational management. Given the nature of our work, this position is expected to work primarily on-site from our office located at 290 Main St. Buffalo, NY.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties includes but is not limited to:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient bureau operations in collaboration with the Deputy Executive Director – Criminal Practice.
- Oversee and ensure that daily operational procedures, workflows, and business practices consistently align with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements, maintaining compliance and operational efficiency across all functions
- Identify, evaluate, and monitor funding sources and grant requirements to ensure compliance, maximize funding opportunities, and support the bureau’s financial sustainability and programmatic goals.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department to conduct thorough reviews of program and operational budgets, monitor spending patterns, and assess contract performance to ensure fiscal accountability, compliance with funding guidelines, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide strategic and operational support to the Chief Executive Officer by assisting in the oversight of daily organizational activities, ensuring smooth execution of internal processes, and facilitating cross-departmental coordination to meet organizational objectives.
- Evaluate the performance of the Chief Attorneys through regular monitoring and providing timely, constructive feedback to support professional development and accountability. Completes annual performance evaluations.
- Conduct regular meetings with Chief Attorneys and Managing Attorneys to review activities or staff concerns.
- Support Chief Attorneys to ensure that supervisors provide appropriate leadership, supervision, feedback, and communication to staff.
