Material Handler
The Material Handler supports pharmacy operations in an automated refill setting by accurately filling, packing, and shipping prescription medications in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. Working under the supervision of a Pharmacist, this role prepares packages, sorts and distributes medications, and maintains a consistent workflow to meet daily production goals. The position is onsite, temp-to-hire, and requires the ability to work productively both independently and as part of a team, with mandatory overtime based on business needs.
Responsibilities- Accurately fill prescription vials with prescribed tablets and capsules, including retrieving and processing unit-of-use and bulk items.
- Read computer-generated screens to locate indicated medications on labeled shelves and verify the size and strength of products before filling orders.
- Replenish medications in automated cells to full capacity by opening and handling large quantities of bottles and cases of product.
- Apply basic mathematical reasoning to count or calculate the appropriate number of units needed to fill prescriptions.
- Use handheld scanner units to scan product barcodes for replenishment and inventory tracking.
- Recognize, address, and escalate issues using effective problem resolution skills to maintain workflow and accuracy.
- Maintain focus and strong attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- Keep the pharmacy floor clean, organized, and in orderly condition to support safe and efficient operations.
- Understand and adhere to federal and state HIPAA laws and pharmacy standard procedures to ensure patient safety and privacy.
- Process orders for shipping, including folding and packing paperwork, preparing packages, and attaching shipping labels.
- Fill, pack, and ship prescriptions with near-perfect accuracy and efficiency using Standard Operating Procedures and supported hardware and software.
- Perform general housekeeping duties and other tasks as assigned to support overall facility operations.
- Adhere to and promote shared company principles and values in daily work.
- Work mandatory overtime as required based on business needs.
- Perform material handling tasks such as inventory handling, picking, packing, loading, unloading, palletizing, and operating warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, sit-down forklifts, reach trucks, and other material handling tools.
- Support general production activities, shipping and receiving, and order picking using RF scanners and other warehouse systems.
- Exhibit strong customer service and interpersonal skills when interacting with team members in a constantly changing production environment.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, including selecting and lifting objects from shelves and carrying them to the order filling line, and consistently carrying 20–30 lbs of merchandise.
- Ability to stand and walk continuously during the shift, approximately 8 hours per day.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, grasp, and pinch as required for material handling and production tasks.
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills to support counting, calculations, and documentation.
- Visual acuity to read computer screens, handheld scanners, and product labels accurately.
- Strong attention to detail with a quality-focused mindset, especially when performing repetitive tasks.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced production environment.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team to maintain continuous workflow and meet production goals.
- Physical stamina to perform light industrial and general labor tasks throughout the shift.
Skills & Qualifications
- Working knowledge of pharmacy operations and professional standards.
- Good computer skills and comfort using warehouse systems and software.
- Warehouse experience, including material handling, inventory, picking, packing, shipping and receiving, and general production, is a plus.
- Experience using RF scanners for picking, replenishment, and inventory tracking is beneficial.
