Wieland is hiring a Industrial Lab Technician
- Sheet Mill

. The Industrial Lab Technician will be responsible for performing tests on in-process and finished material samples to ensure that materials conform to customer specifications. The technician will advise production personnel of any necessary adjustments to in-process materials and communicate out-of-specification finished material test results to technical personnel for appropriate corrective action.

This role is located in Buffalo, NY and will be fully onsite.

Base Salary Range: $26.00/hour

Hours:

Split shift (6am-4pm/4pm-2am)

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Responsibilities

Lab Technician Responsibilities:

  • Interprets and evaluates test results in accordance with applicable standards, customer specifications, and company procedures.
  • Prepare metal sample for testing by cutting to appropriate test dimensions. Sets up machinery according to requirements for each sample. Follows ASTM metals testing procedure.
  • Selects, calibrates, and operates technical industrial equipment used in the non-destructive testing of materials according to standard procedure and instructions described in company ISO procedures.
  • Completes testing, measurements, and evaluation of results for all methods of non-destructive testing including grain size, Rockwell hardness, tensile testing, conductivity, tin thickness, bend testing, and surface finish using lab equipment to ensure conformation to customer and company specifications.
  • Selects appropriate tools, equipment, and technologies for operational use when preparing samples for testing.
  • Tests acid, BTA concentrations, water, PH levels, and soap solutions to ensure that the levels meet company specifications. Logs results and adjusts solutions accordingly.
  • Occasionally retests samples from production and technical personnel from the annealing, rolling operations, or finished packages.
  • Records all material test results in the appropriate computer program.
  • Prepares reports on non-destructive testing results to log into the quality system and reports to on-shift Quality Technician and/or Metallurgists when out of compliance.

Lab Technician

Qualifications:

  • AAS or Bachelors in a technical discipline or STEM
  • 1-3 years related work experience required
  • Participate in continuous improvement of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, 9001, IATF 16949 programs and procedures though active participation in the near miss program.
  • Handles containerizing and labeling universal wastes including batteries and lamps, as well as spent aerosol cans(HW).
