The Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Inc
. has an exciting opportunity for Communications and Development Manager to contribute to our impact on Western New York communities. This position is responsible for leading the organization’s internal and external communications by cultivating communications strategies that further our mission and services. This position will use initiative, discretion, and independent judgment to proactively develop and execute communications solutions and strategies. You will proactively identify needs and create original messaging and content.

Given the nature of our work, the Communications and Development Manager is expected to work primarily on-site from our office located at 290 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202.

Salary ranging from $73,314 – $89,902, commensurate with relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities:

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Leads organizational messaging, content, and storytelling by actively developing communication strategies, anticipating as well as responding to specific requests/needs.
  • Independently and proactively identify when communications are warranted and aligned with organizational and departmental priorities, including press releases and media outreach, social media posts and campaigns, video and multimedia content, and public statements, narratives, and announcements.
  • Create and edit original content for all communications, such as fundraising appeals, brochures, flyers, email campaigns, website copy, video and multimedia, and social media, ensuring accessibility and consistency of voice, tone, and brand across all communications.
  • Advise leadership on communications strategies related to organizational developments, milestones, recruitment needs, and external events.
  • Identify and lead donor-facing communications in coordination with leadership, through the development and management of strategies and content that foster engagement and retention, including fundraising campaigns and appeals, acknowledgements, stewardship materials, and impact updates.
  • Align communications initiatives with organizational goals and audience needs.
  • Proactively and respectfully collaborate with program and department leadership and points of contact to regularly develop and refine communication strategies and content by translating internal knowledge into clear, compelling public-facing messaging.
  • Maintain editorial authority to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
  • Manage communication calendars, workflows, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with designers, videographers, vendors, and media contacts as needed.
