Youth Development
The West Side Rowing Club is a non-profit organization whose purpose is the advancement of the physical, mental, and moral well-being of the youth of the City of Buffalo, New York and surrounding communities by education, training, instruction, and participation in the art of rowing and other athletic pursuits.
As a VISTA, you will be instrumental in assisting the club with its development of a secondary boathouse location, expanding membership for youth rowing, and working to increase operational excellence across the board for all programs, activities, and special events through community outreach. One key reason to apply for this position is that it involves a diverse set of tasks. From helping to oversee equipment and logistics to ensuring safety protocols are followed, there's always something new and exciting to help make it more efficient and streamlined to increase a member’s experience.
Working in community outreach can present unique challenges. Tackling these challenges requires creativity, adaptability, and quick thinking, making the role intellectually stimulating. This position is interesting because you will be able to work with coaches, staff, and board members in various capacities. Specifically, you’ll work with our President, Head Coach, Director of Community Outreach, and VP of Rowing to develop and execute a plan for increasing the leverage of resources across all facilities as well as assisting in identifying and writing grants alongside senior staff.
