Overview

We are recruiting for a full-time Nursing Assistant within VA Western New York Healthcare System - Buffalo VA Medical Center in Buffalo NY. The Nursing Assistant performs activities of daily living and provides a range of care that contributes to the Veteran's treatment plan, recovery, and wellness under the direction of a licensed health care provider.

Responsibilities
  • Perform activities of daily living and provide a range of care that contributes to the Veteran's treatment plan, recovery, and wellness under the direction of a licensed health care provider.
  • Assist higher graded NAs, licensed nursing staff, and other members of the care team in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient care, home or community living care, or other patients/residents who are in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness.
  • Serve as a member of the nursing care team and support the coordination of patient/resident care and ongoing assessment under supervision.
  • Learn and develop basic nursing assistant skills to provide care to patients/residents with acute to chronic conditions in a health care setting.
Qualifications
  • Basic Requirements:
    United States Citizenship;
    English Language Proficiency as required by VA Handbook rules; ability to meet medical/occupational health requirements per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
  • Experience or Education or Training:
    Six months of general experience, or one year of education above high school with courses related to NA occupation, or completion of an intensive occupation-related course of study of less than one year.
  • Grandfathering Provisions:
    May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described for current VHA employees.
  • Creditable Experience and KSAs:
    Ability to provide a range of patient/resident care; ability to observe and refer deviations to supervisor; ability to use basic equipment and materials; effective communication with patients/residents, families, and health professionals.
  • Grade Determinations (GS-3 to GS-5):
    Outline of experience/education and KSAs required for each grade level, including entry level (GS-3), intermediate (GS-4), and full performance (GS-5).
  • Preferred Experience:

    BLS experience and 1 year of acute care or emergency department experience.
