SEIU‑4‑Buffalo‑Service Workers‑SBU - Operating Room Shift: Day/Evening
Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the Patient Care Technician provides basic direct and indirect patient care.
Responsibilities include:
- Observe, collect, and document health status data such as vital signs, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, weight, and intake/output.
- Report immediately to the RN observations that are outside normal limits or significantly changed.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) including toileting, bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, and hygiene.
- Perform personal care/interventions as assigned and with proper equipment and body mechanics.
- Assist patients, families, and visitors with way finding and unit navigation.
- Assist with transfers, movement, rooming, ambulation, positioning, and range of motion (ROM) as ordered.
- Answer patient call lights promptly for both assigned and other patients.
- Assist with clerical duties such as patient registration, physician order processing, and accurate documentation.
- Transport medication from the tube system to secure locations per facility standards.
- Clarify, communicate, prioritize, and transcribe written orders via the Electronic Medical Record system.
- Order, validate, or store supplies and patient education materials as needed.
- Print Release of Information packets for discharge to nursing homes or other facilities.
- Review and explain authorization forms with patients and obtain signatures when applicable.
- Schedule procedures/appointments as needed.
- Contribute to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees; report environmental risks or equipment malfunctions.
- Participate in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve patient care.
- Handle hazardous waste, ensuring proper segregation, disposal, and container integrity, and knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must meet one of the following: 18 years of age or 17 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
- Must meet one of the following: completion of one semester of clinical rotations with an accredited nursing program; successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program; completion of the Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy Program; NREMT certification upon hire; or previous direct patient care experience.
- Must hold at least one of the following licenses or certifications: current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, current BLS certification from the American Red Cross, or Allina in‑house BLS training (within 30 days of hire).
Medium work. Lifting weight up to 32 lbs occasionally; up to 25 lbs frequently.
Pay Range$21.76 to $28.57 per hour. Pay may vary based on experience, education, union agreement, shift differentials, and work hour differentials.
