residence is a requirement for all positions. In the absence of clear and convincing evidence to the contrary, an applicant shall be deemed a non-resident if he/she cannot show ninety (90) days of continuous and uninterrupted residence in the city of buffalo prior to filing application.
this does not apply to anyone applying for the buffalo police entry level examination. please take notice that the ordinances of the city of buffalo mandate continuous residency in the city during your employment, except for positions specifically exempt under state law.

distinguishing features of the classan incumbent in this position is responsible for the maintenance of the animals housed in the city of buffalo animal shelter. Direct supervision is received from the director of animal control or a designee and no supervisory duties are exercised.
responsibilities- feeds, cares for and maintains the animals housed in the animal shelter.
- prepares food and cleans cages.
- observes animals for signs of illness and communicates same to the veterinary.
- reports verbally and in writing to the director regarding status of the animals and their surroundings.
- oversees inventory and supplies.
- prepares requisitions for approval by the director.
- maintains records and reports regarding the animals housed in the shelter.
- performs related duties as required.
- one year of full-time experience in the handling and caring of small animals in a recognized animal clinic, hospital or shelter.
- educational credits (6) hours in laboratory animal care/animal husbandry from an accredited college, university or boces vocational center.
note: verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience required.
full performance knowledges, skills, abilities and personal characteristics- working knowledge of the care and handling of dogs and small animals.
- ability to follow oral and written directions.
- ability to prepare and submit daily work reports.
- basic recordkeeping.
- physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
