Position Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Research Scientist
. Dr. Sangita Patel’s lab, at the University at Buffalo, is located at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. Dr. Patel’s lab studies the physiology of the corneal endothelium, the cell layer that maintains transparency of the cornea. Current projects are focused on studies of the extracellular matrix of the corneal endothelium and responses to cell injury. The Research Scientist is expected to be able to move projects from the idea phase to the bench, including interpretation and presentation of findings, and guiding future areas for investigation.
- Establishing new protocols for research ideas
- Performing and troubleshooting experimental protocols
- Analyzing and interpreting data and preparing for presentation
- Preparing reports and publications
- Human and cow eye dissections
- Teaching and guiding junior laboratory team members
- General laboratory maintenance/upkeep activities
- PhD or MD in a relevant science / health science field
- Excellent organizational, documentation, communication, and teamwork skills
- Self‑motivated and able to work independently
- Proficient in cell culture techniques and general cell/molecular biology protocols
- Knowledgeable about ophthalmic disease and ocular anatomy
- Experience studying extracellular matrix
- Experience with microdissection
