Position: Assistant Manager I

Overview

We’re seeking an Assistant Store Manager to join our team to help with store operations, customer service and team development.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities
  • Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address any questions or concerns they may have
  • Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor as needed, ensuring seasonal areas are maintained
  • Perform opening and closing procedures as required
  • Process all corporate directives, including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests, and any additional communications related to store activities
  • Maintain promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays
  • Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, and record-keeping (including payroll, scheduling, cash register deposits and receipts), and loss prevention
  • Maintain areas of the store, including a well‑stocked sales floor and organized stockroom, to company standards
  • Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, including safety guidelines, ensuring all store associates follow them
  • Help the Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates
  • Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment while maintaining professional and friendly interactions with customers, associates, and leaders
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the store, including cleaning and restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, taking out the trash, and ensuring all areas are neat and presentable
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives (e.g., merchandise schematics)
  • Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment (preferred)
  • Physical ability to lift up to 55 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height and meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills
  • Ability to work in a high‑energy, team environment
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills

Employment is at‑will, meaning that either the employee or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice.

Additional Conditions

We are required to obtain specialized licenses for those of our stores that sell alcohol and/or tobacco. As a manager, you may be required by the local jurisdiction where a store is situated to provide detailed background information necessary to obtain a license to sell alcoholic beverages or tobacco products. Failure to comply or qualify for such a license can lead to demotion or separation of employment.
