Position: Benefits Account Manager

Job Summary

This position provides basic to broad level product expertise in support of the Employee Benefits Sales Consultants and Account Executives to establish and build profitable client relationships. The Account Manager will provide client services and technical support to clients and team members as required. The role requires presentation skills and travel within eight counties of western New York to meet client needs.

Essential

Functions
  • Work with Sales and Account Executives to service new, existing, and potential clients.
  • Advise and counsel clients on employee benefit products and services provided by Walsh and on legislative issues involving Employee Benefits.
  • Process all required documentation to add new coverage or effect changes, including collection and submission of data to carriers, follow‑up questions, and review of plan documents/employee communications for accuracy.
  • Identify, research, analyze, and resolve client issues; document results in the client management system.
  • Provide ongoing day‑to‑day account management.
  • Conduct enrollment/education meetings for employees at client locations.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Walsh and carrier technology‑based systems.
  • Work with the Benefits Service Manager and carrier representatives to gain knowledge of all products and services.
  • Attend service meetings and product/educational seminars.
  • Attend pre‑renewal, renewal, and prospective client meetings.
  • Oversee client initiatives and projects to ensure timely delivery and desired outcomes.
  • Cross‑train as needed.
  • Adhere to the expectations of the E&O Plus Quality Management Program.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain up‑to‑date information using agency‑provided tools.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by agency management; handle moderately complex tasks independently.
  • Respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to client service standards of the division and agency.
  • Participate in training and seminar courses.
  • Follow guidelines outlined in the WD employee manual.
  • Monitor legislation that pertains to employee benefits and regularly communicate updates with the Benefits Division and clients.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in employee benefits/human resources (required).
  • Life and Health license required within the first six months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Microsoft Office software skills and the ability to utilize computer systems and programs.
  • Above‑average communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team‑building skills.
  • Strong commitment to high‑quality service delivery.
  • Approximately 35% of time traveling to client offices located within eight WNY counties.
  • Exceptional time‑management skills.
  • Strong presentation skills for groups from 2 to 200+ people.
  • Ability to research and learn subject matter regarding employee benefits.
  • Life & Health license required within the first six months.

Reports to/Department: Manager, Group Benefits Operations; functional report to clients’ assigned Account Executive and Sales Consultant.

Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000.

FLSA Job Classification: Full‑time; exempt if hired at a salary meeting applicable federal and New York State exemptions; otherwise non‑exempt.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee is regularly required to sit while using a computer or other technologies, see, talk, and hear.
