Job SummaryThe Utility Engineer is responsible for maintaining guestrooms, public space and the back of the house to ensure an attractive and well‑maintained hotel. These duties include but are not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, wall covering and masonry to ensure safety standards are met.
Essential Functions- Inspection and maintenance:
- Inspects guestrooms, public spaces and back of house areas and makes repairs as necessary.
- Visually inspects and detects items needing repair.
- Repairs, touches up or replaces light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, plumbing fixtures, hardware.
- Maintains inventory of supplies.
- Reports major deficiencies and items which cannot be readily repaired to direct supervisor.
- Assists Housekeeping team in deep cleaning program
- Preventative maintenance and care:
- Performs preventative maintenance of guestrooms, public spaces and back of house areas.
- Cleans, paints, caulks and grouts as needed

Other Duties and Responsibilities- Ensures uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
- Attempts to communicate with guest in guest’s native language, if applicable.
- Reports maintenance deficiencies, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries.
- Follows Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, and reports any defective, damaged or lost PPE including equipment that does not fit properly to management.
- Follows all safety procedures and able to recognize and act in emergency situations.
- High School Degree or equivalent preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from trade school, that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position.
- Possesses considerable experience and knowledge of a wide variety of maintenance trades in order to visually inspect and repair items or equipment, including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanics.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of hotel equipment.
- Experience in using basic hand and power tools.
- Possesses the ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet high and reach in all directions.
- Ability to read, write and listen and communicate effectively in English.
