Position Summary

Our Material Handling Group is seeking a full‑time Forklift Service Technician / Mechanic for our Lancaster, NY branch. This position is first shift, Monday‑Friday, hourly (no flat rate). Field technicians are provided a company service van for use at home and a fuel card.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment.
  • Complete each repair job in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Work and manage workloads independently.
  • Properly complete and submit all required paperwork.
  • Manage company vehicle and on‑board parts inventory.
  • Incorporate Alta’s Guiding Principles into daily activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Maintains consistent, regular, and reliable attendance, being ready for work at the designated start time.

Additional Benefits

We encourage participation in our in‑house paid training program to acquire additional skills in diagnosis and troubleshooting. Company uniforms are provided, and a $2,500 sign‑on bonus is available.

Qualifications
  • Two years of previous forklift repair experience (highly desired), including military, guard or reserve experience with an MOS or NEC code of 63B, 63H, 63S, 63W, 63Y, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M or CM.
  • Previous field experience is highly preferable.
  • Strong working knowledge of electric and liquid propane units.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Possess own tools.
  • Must have a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license to drive the company vehicle.
  • Computer programs – HYPASS, Hyster TKC training software and Yale/Hyster contact management system.
  • Language skills – Intermediate: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Mathematical skills – Basic: ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds, using units of American money and weight, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning ability – Intermediate: ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regularly will stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands; frequently will talk/hear; occasionally will sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • No special vision requirements.
  • Regularly lift up to 10 pounds; frequently lift 11 to 25 pounds; occasionally lift 26 to 100+ pounds.
  • Frequent bending and working from a prone position (lying down while working underneath equipment) are required.
  • Regularly work near moving mechanical parts; frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions; occasionally work in wet or humid conditions (non‑weather), extreme cold or heat (non‑weather), risk of electrical shock, vibration.
Compensation

Base pay: $22.00 to $33.00 per hour. This range is regarding base pay only and does not include benefits and potential bonuses. Overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographical location, skillset, education, and experience.
