Description
Municipal Emergency Services, Inc. (MES) is looking for a full‑time Service Technician (Air Products - SCBA) to inspect, maintain, repair, and test the Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus used by firefighting personnel in hazardous environments. The technician ensures SCBA equipment is in optimal condition and ready for use during emergencies and conducts periodic service calls at fire departments, performing preventative maintenance on 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and related equipment.

Throughout the program, technicians will spend time at the MES Training Facility in Charlotte, NC, attend a manufacturer‑led certification course, and receive additional hands‑on field training from seasoned technicians.
Work Location / TerritoryErie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara NY Counties.
Willingness to travel100% travel for this position is required.
Essential Job Functions:Roles and Responsibilities
- Equipment Inspection:
Perform routine inspections and functional checks of 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and related equipment to verify readiness and compliance with safety regulations. - Maintenance and Repairs:
Conduct troubleshooting and repairs on SCBA equipment, replacing worn or damaged components. - Testing:
Perform pressure, airflow, and leak tests to verify equipment meets manufacturer specifications. - Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of all inspection, maintenance, and repair activities. - Calibration:
Calibrate and adjust SCBA equipment for accurate readings and safe operation. - Training:
Train end‑users and personnel on proper use, care, and maintenance of SCBA equipment. - Inventory Management:
Manage spare parts inventory to ensure adequate stock for repairs. - Regulatory Compliance:
Stay current with safety regulations and industry standards for SCBA equipment. - Customer Service:
Address customer concerns and assist with equipment‑related issues.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience servicing and maintaining SCBA equipment is highly desirable.
- Additional technical training or certification related to SCBA equipment maintenance and repair is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA standards, and manufacturer guidelines for SCBA equipment.
- Sound computer skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and occasionally stay overnight for remote or large jobs.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work under deadlines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Good communication skills.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Experience servicing HVAC equipment, small engine repair, firefighting equipment, hydraulics, or cabling.
- Experience as a mechanic or electrician.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and carry SCBA equipment up to 50 lbs.
