The Buffalo Bill Museum is seeking a part‑time Visitor Services Assistant to welcome and orient guests, process admission sales, provide general administrative support for museum operations, and assist with interpretation, educational programs, outreach, and social media.
Location& Schedule
The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave is part of the Denver Mountain Parks system and is located in Lookout Mountain Park in Golden, Colorado. Public transportation is not available; applicants should ensure they have reliable transportation. The position is an on‑call, part‑time hourly role, working 16–32 hours per week (no more than 39 hours). Typical hours are 8:45 a.m.–5:15 p.m., two to four days per week, with one weekend day and occasional evenings that may vary by season and operational demands.
Compensationand Benefits
Pay range: $20.06–$30.10 per hour
. New hires are typically brought in at $20.06–$24.49 per hour. The position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. It is not eligible for other additional benefits. For bilingual candidates in Spanish, a bilingual services stipend of $50.00 per pay period may be available.
- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors to the Buffalo Bill Museum.
- Interact with the public and internal customers in person, by phone, and by email in a professional, courteous manner.
- Answer questions related to the Buffalo Bill Museum, history, and assist visitors with research requests.
- Operate the cash register, balance the register, and prepare reports.
- Keep brochures and foreign language translation guides stocked.
- Open and close the museum.
- Monitor security cameras, contact park rangers or law enforcement in case of an emergency.
- Assist with event preparation, educational programs, and community outreach.
- Present short interpretive programs onsite.
- Create content for social media following the museum’s social media plan.
- Create program props, worksheets, handouts, other audio/visual aids, and computer‑generated presentations to enhance education and interpretive programs.
- Assist with collections database, which may include photographing artifacts and scanning archival materials.
- An interest in history.
- Experience working at a museum, cultural or natural history site.
- Experience in cash handling, point‑of‑sale operations, and payment processing.
- Experience assisting in the research, planning, and presentation of place‑based, curriculum‑aligned history and cultural resource programs for diverse audiences, including K‑12 students, adults, and seniors.
- Certified Interpretive Guide certificate through the National Association for Interpretation or willingness to complete one once hired.
- Basic experience using Past Perfect or another artifact collections database.
- Providing direct customer service in person, by phone, and via email.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Education requirement:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate. - Experience requirement:
One (1) year of clerical experience. - Education/Experience Equivalency:
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
