Accountants One is being engaged by a repeat client to help them hire a Strategic Controller. This is a $60M+, private-equity-backed global engineering, manufacturing/fabrication, and supply chain management business. They have plans to grow both organically and through acquisition. The PE team and the founding management team are all accomplished business leaders with a humble attitude. The ideal candidate is someone who is both hands-on and strategic.
The successful candidate will be a tech-savvy operational Controller with experience in growing companies in both top-line revenue and bottom-line profit.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Company’s accounting function and ensure accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, supported by strong internal controls
- Financial reporting to be supported by the appropriate cost accounting fundamentals, including standard costing, WIP accounting, variance analysis, and margin reporting
- Manage all treasury and cash management activities, including cash forecasting and monthly collateral reporting as required
- Partner with the CFO to oversee finance operations, including accounts receivable / collections, accounts payable / vendor relations, payroll, and inventory costing, which includes the Company’s annual physical inventory process
- Support existing lender relationships, including covenant compliance reporting, bank audit requirements, and inventory appraisals
- Serve as the primary liaison for the financial and bank audit process; ensure timely delivery of audit deliverables and compliance requirements
- Ensure compliance with government reporting requirements (including foreign entities) and all tax filings
- Support financial planning activities, including budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis, and MD&A
- Partner with the CFO on monthly financial reporting and preparation of materials for quarterly Board meetings
- Analyze company, customer, and product-level performance to identify profitability improvement opportunities
- Identify efficiencies and opportunities for cost reductions across the business
- Facilitate improvements in upstream processes to ensure the completeness and accuracy of business data
- Manage the accounting and finance staff and ensure effective and efficient operations
- Provide mentoring, coaching, supervision, and training for the team, along with day-to-day support, as required
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred
- 7+ years of accounting experience with 3+ years of prior Controllership experience
- Direct cost accounting experience (desired)
- Experience implementing, streamlining, and automating accounting and financial reporting processes
- Track record of success in a margin-focused, manufacturing business environment
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Advanced/strong data analytical skills
- Self-motivated leader with high ethical and performance standards
- Streamline finance and accounting processes to improve close efficiency and reporting quality
