Sports Editor/Writer, Sneak Peak (Contract) – Client+ Editorial
Location:
Onsite, Burbank, CA | Assignment Length: 9 months (potential for extension)
Sneak Peak, Client+’s premier editorial hub for entertainment and sports fans, is seeking an experienced Sports Editor/Writer to power its growing digital sports coverage. As a pivotal member of our editorial team, you’ll create, edit, and publish timely, engaging, and informative content centered on soccer, NFL, and major live events. This is a high-impact, hands-on opportunity for a skilled digital sports journalist ready to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and creative environment.
Responsibilities- Write and publish approximately one original article per day, adapting to assignment complexity and team needs
- Deliver fast-turnaround coverage tied to matchups, results, schedules, standings, and marquee sports moments
- Produce evergreen and discovery content including how-to-watch guides, team explainers, previews, and viewing guides
- Build and update team and competition hubs to ensure persistent, up-to-date seasonal coverage
- Edit copy from fellow writers, update existing articles, and fact-check to maintain accuracy, clarity, and voice
- Apply SEO best practices to optimize content for search, collaborating with editorial, marketing, and SEO stakeholders to secure approvals
- Proven professional experience as a digital sports editor, writer, or journalist
- Deep knowledge of soccer and the NFL; familiarity with UFC, college football, and the broader sports landscape
- Exceptional writing, editing, copy editing, and headline-writing abilities
- Strong editorial judgment and ability to identify compelling story angles
- Demonstrated experience producing clean, engaging content on tight or live event-driven deadlines
- Prior experience editing and mentoring other writers with clear, actionable feedback
- Proficiency in Word Press or similar CMS; fluency with Google Docs and collaborative editorial workflows
- Working knowledge of SEO principles; strong research and fact-checking skills
- Highly organized; adept at managing multiple priorities and stakeholder feedback
- Experience at a major sports publication or high-volume digital sports newsroom
- In-depth soccer or NFL coverage portfolio
- Track record developing strong headlines, subheads, and content structures for both readers and search engines
- Background in writing evergreen, recommendation, or search-driven articles
- Familiarity with audience insights, search trends, and data-driven content performance analysis
- Understanding of Client+ sports programming
- Competitive hourly compensation up to $81.40/hr
