Job Title:

Project Engineer - Aerospace Sensors

Job Description

The Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, validation, and delivery of pressure and temperature sensing products for aerospace applications. This role combines hands-on engineering with project management and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will lead product development from concept through qualification and production release while preparing technical documentation and presentations and interfacing closely with customers, engineers, drafters, supply chain, quality, and production teams.

Responsibilities

+ Lead the development of new pressure and temperature sensors from initial concept through qualification and production release.

+ Plan and manage engineering projects, including defining milestones, budgets, resources, and risk mitigation strategies.

+ Coordinate with multiple internal departments and external partners to ensure timely achievement of engineering milestones.

+ Review customer and industry requirements to define project inputs and create compliance matrices for traceability.

+ Communicate directly with customers to clarify requirements, request deviations when necessary, and incorporate the voice of the customer into project decisions.

+ Collaborate with design engineering to develop complete design records, including engineering drawings, models, schematics, and work instructions.

+ Generate comprehensive technical documentation deliverables such as ATP, QTP, QAR, QSAR, QTR, FMECA, DDP, PFD, DFMEA, and PFMEA.

+ Drive internal and external design reviews, including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).

+ Oversee component-level manufacturing and procurement, including prototype builds and tooling fabrication.

+ Manage qualification testing and related design validation activities to confirm product performance and reliability.

+ Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives to achieve production readiness and design maturity.

+ Lead and support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts for product-related non-conformances.

+ Generate and maintain APQP gated design and development checklists to support robust product development processes.

+ Support PPAP and related cross-departmental APQP activities to ensure successful product launch and ongoing quality.

+ Perform other related engineering and project duties as required and assigned.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum 5+ years of electrical or mechanical design engineering experience in aerospace or a closely related field.

+ Bachelor's degree in engineering is required, with aerospace, electrical, or mechanical engineering strongly preferred.

+ Demonstrable knowledge of aerospace design practices and AS9100 procedures.

+ Experience designing or developing aerospace products, particularly sensing or similar components, is preferred.

+ Familiarity with applicable industry design and testing standards, including DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-254.

+ Strong understanding of materials, physics, manufacturing methods, and testing methodologies relevant to aerospace products.

+ Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints, including GD&T.

+ Functional understanding of analog and digital electronics and the ability to read electrical schematics is strongly preferred.

+ Familiarity with Solid Works or similar CAD software for mechanical design.

+ Ability to use basic data analysis tools to evaluate test results and design performance.

+ Strong project engineering skills, including planning, coordination, and cross-functional communication.

+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Master's degree in engineering or a related field is preferred.

+ Background in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechanical design.

+ Experience working within AS9100-certified or aerospace-focused organizations.

+ Comfort preparing and delivering technical documentation and presentations for both internal stakeholders and customers.

+ Strong collaboration skills for working with design engineering, supply chain, quality, and production teams.

+ Ability to participate in or influence leadership-level discussions within an engineering or product development organization.

Work Environment

This role operates within a mid-sized aerospace-focused manufacturing company that emphasizes a close-knit, family-oriented culture and offers meaningful opportunities to contribute at the leadership level. You will report into the engineering organization and collaborate daily with design, quality, supply chain, and production groups. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in a professional engineering and manufacturing setting that uses modern CAD tools, data analysis software, and standardized aerospace development processes…
